Former Minnesota Police Officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to more prison time on Thursday.

Chauvin received a 21-year sentence for violating George Floyd's civil rights when he kneeled on Floyd's neck for more than 9 minutes during the now-famous arrest from May of 2020.

Chauvin is already serving a 22.5-year sentence after he was convicted of murder and manslaughter last year. The federal sentence will be served concurrently.

Three other former Minneapolis officers were also convicted of violating Floyd's civil rights, and are currently awaiting sentencing.
