Two of the best girl groups of the ‘90s — Xscape and SWV — went head-to-head in the Mother’s Day edition of Verzuz this weekend.
Before the two groups faced off, DJ Aone and DJ Spinderella got on the turntables. Just like last year’s Mother’s Day Verzuz featuring Erykah Badu against Jill Scott, the evening was more about celebration than competition.
Highlights included:
Tamika Scott kicking things off with a heartfelt prayer.
Covers include The Clark Sisters “Is My Living in Vain” and “Endow Me.”
Musical tributes to Missy Elliott, DMX and Andre Harrell.
An appearance from Jermaine Dupri who joined Xscape to perform “Just Kickin’ It.”
Both groups went deep beyond their own catalogs. Xscape played Destiny’s Child “Bills, Bills, Bills,” which was written by Kandi Burruss, while SWV played Coko’s feature from Will Smith’s “Men in Black.” Later in the night, Xscape played TLC’s “No Scrubs,” which Kandi and Tiny wrote.
