CORONAVIRUS: Deaths Top 100,000 in the U.S.

The United States reached a grim milestone on Wednesday -- deaths from the coronavirus topped the 100,000 mark.

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • As a nation, we have yet to come to terms with the number of dead lost in this pandemic. We're in denial.
  • With summer approaching, everyone wants to get back to normal, though that may not be possible.
  • Someday we'll look back at this period as a grim time for our country and hopefully we'll be better prepared in the future for such situations.

The United States reached a grim milestone on Wednesday -- deaths from the coronavirus topped the 100,000 mark.

Although the number deaths continues to increase in America, officials in various states across the country have begun to lift stay-at-home measures in an attempt to kick-start the economy, while the White House pushes for a quick opening to get the economy back on track.

Donald Trump on Sunday tweeted that "cases, numbers and deaths" were down around the U.S., but that's not true in every state. Trump made a similar statement earlier in the month, which was contradicted by an internal report by the White House pandemic task force.

According to that report, the number of cases in some metropolitan areas – in Tennessee, Kentucky, Texas and Iowa -- were up 73 percent or more. In Charlotte, North Carolina, the number of new cases were up 200 percent, and in Central City, Kentucky, the number of new infections was up 650 percent. (NBC News)

Former VP and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden issued a statement to Twitter. Donald Trump had yet to comment on the sad milestone.
