NAACP Issues Travel Advisory For Florida

The NAACP is calling out Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The NAACP has issued a travel advisory for Florida saying the administration under DeSantis is openly hostile against people of color.

Both LULAC (League of the United Latin American Citizens) and the NAACP say actions under the DeSantis administration are hostile towards the community. The organization made it's sentiments public Saturday May 20 issuing the advisory in direct response to Gov. Ron DeSantis "aggressive attempts to erase Black History and restrict diversity , equity and inclusion programs" in the schools.

In a statement released by the NAACP:

“Florida is openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals,” the NAACP said. “Before traveling to Florida, please understand that the state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by African Americans and other communities of color.”

Gov. DeSantis and his administration has banned the teaching of critical race theory. Which acknowledges systemic racism is a part of American history and challenges the beliefs that allowed it to flourish.

DeSantis is also battling Disney in a lawsuit. The fight has been going on for over 14 months. Tensions have not gotten better between the two; with Disney threatening to leave the state of Florida. Disney was not happy with the Florida governor over a state law that restricts the teaching of sexual orientation and gender identity in schools.

Though DeSantis is ruffling feathers all around him the backlash comes the week of him supposedly announcing his run for president.

Updates on this sticky situation between Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida minorities will be provided here. Do you feel that Gov. Ron DeSantis is conducting Florida's business and the care of Florians as a future president of the country should? Drop you thoughts below.
