Its nearly two months away and many are locking in there plans for Juneteenth celebrations. Last year there was a significant amount of involvement and engagement from people of all backgrounds around the world on June 19th.
Today, the city of North Miami Beach is making some history, as they become the first city in Miami Dade County to vote and pass for Juneteenth to be an official citywide holiday. Which also means that this will be a paid holiday for residents.
The holiday also referred to by many as 'Freedom Day' and or Emancipation Day – celebrates the emancipation of those who were enslaved in the United States. Though many have been pushing for years, that Junetheenth be national paid holiday, Texas according to sources was the first state to do this, as states like Virginia and others followed suite.
