Drake Released A Statement Aimed at UMG Before Kendrick Lamar's Performance

Drake and Kendrick Lamar are involved in a legal dispute over the diss track "Not Like Us." Drake has filed a defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG), questioning both the song's release and its promotion. He claims the track misrepresents him in a harmful way. Even though he is signed to UMG, Drake alleges that the company prioritizes profits over ethical concerns. Ahead of Lamar's upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show, Drake's legal team released a statement criticizing UMG's actions, stating that they are pretending to support artistic freedom while ignoring serious issues like child abuse. They believe that the evidence they will present in court will reveal UMG’s focus on financial gain at the expense of its artists’ welfare.

This controversy adds tension to an already strained relationship between Drake and Lamar, which has grown over the years. The song has intensified their rivalry and sparked debates among fans. With legal actions underway, the conflict has shifted from just music to larger issues regarding artistic expression, defamation, and the music industry's responsibilities.

Currently, Drake is in Australia for his "Anita Max Win Tour," marking his first performances there since 2017. The tour began on February 4, 2025, in Perth and includes shows in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Auckland.
