Pop Smoke Murder Trial Delayed!

The unresolved murder case of Pop Smoke faces a new obstacle on the road to justice as the court sets a fresh start date for the trial of Corey Walker, the sole adult defendant accused of killing the New York drill rapper. Walker's failure to reach a plea agreement promptly with prosecutors means a delay in the trial unless mitigation efforts succeed. Over four years have passed since Pop's tragic death in a home invasion, yet closure for his family and accountability for the alleged perpetrators remain elusive. Recently, one of Pop Smoke's supposed killers was released from prison, coinciding with his 21st birthday after pleading guilty years earlier. Social media posts confirmed the release of this underage defendant who served time in juvenile detention. It remains uncertain if these events will interconnect or if the release is independent of the plea deal negotiations. Corey Walker's attorney, Deion Benjamin, disclosed that negotiations collapsed in the Pop Smoke case but hinted at a potential future agreement pending the resolution of certain issues.

If unresolved, the trial is set to commence with jury selection scheduled to start on August 6. An alleged witness to the crime expressed how the incident changed their life profoundly, recalling the night of February 19, 2020, as the worst of their life. The witness reflected on the fear and realization of imminent danger during the tragic event, expressing gratitude for a second chance at life after years of struggle.
