Young Thug Trial: Update

Judge Ural Glanville plans to convene a meeting to investigate the source of the leak regarding the ex parte meeting involving Young Thug's attorney, Brian Steel, the prosecution, and witness Kenneth "Lil Woody" Copeland. In an order to show cause issued on Tuesday, Glanville stated that all participants in the discussion must prove they did not disclose the information or face contempt charges. The meeting is scheduled for June 25th. Following Steel's discovery of the ex parte meeting, he expressed anger in court on Monday, calling for a mistrial and denouncing it as unconstitutional. Copeland had initially decided not to testify after reaching an immunity agreement contingent on his testimony. Steel argued against communicating with a sworn witness, alleging coercion, witness intimidation, and unconstitutional ex parte communications. Glanville questioned the source of Steel's information and subsequently held him in contempt of court, sentencing him to 10 weekends in jail for attempting to manipulate the court system. Steel requested to serve his jail time alongside his client if his appeal is unsuccessful. Young Thug's trial commenced in November 2023 and has become the lengthiest case in Georgia's legal history.
