It's Bobby Shmurda's Birthday!
Smurda hit the scene when he remixed was Crime Mob's "Knuck If You Buck," which led to the release of his song "Hot Nigga". Using the instrumental from Lloyd Banks' "Jackpot," the song and the music video went viral in 2014. Shmurda's signature "Shmoney dance", became an internet meme and was featured in Vines.
Following the song's success, Shmurda was signed to Epic Records, and the song topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart, and peaked at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was certified platinum, and the music video received over 649 million views on YouTube. The song's remix featured Fabolous, Chris Brown, Jadakiss, Rowdy Rebel, Busta Rhymes, and Yo Gotti. A reggae remix of the song also featured Junior Reid, Mavado, Popcaan, and Jah X.
Shmurda would later release "Bobby Bitch" which peaked at number 92 on the Billboard Hot 100, and his debut EP, Shmurda She Wrote, was released in 2014.
Bobby Shmurda partnered with ONErpm to launch his own label, GS9, and is preparing to release his first EP, BodBoy, on August 5!
Since leaving Epic Records, Bobby has released a constant stream of new music. “Hoochie Daddy,” is his most recent single from Bodboy, and parodies Uncle Luke’s “Hoochie Mama.”
“When I came into the game I didn’t take the music industry serious,” Shmurda said. “I didn’t even really know about the music industry. I didn’t even give a f@ck about the music industry when I first came in the game, and then I see how powerful music was, and like how kids really react to it. I’m taking all of that power into consideration now.”
