Gunna and Young Thug “Push P” from behind bars!
“Pushin’ P” featuring Future has been certified platinum, surpassing two million units. The song peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, and appeared on Gunna’s third album DS4Ever, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
As far as Gunna’s legal situation, his attorneys filed a fourth motion, after being arrested in May as part of a RICO case against Young Thug’s YSL, who have been accused of being a “criminal street gang.” His trial is set to begin on January 9, 2023.
Gunna launched a campaign to secure his release from jail ahead of his RICO trial.
Gunna’s attorneys filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus, a constitutional summons that allows prisoners to challenge their imprisonment. They argued Fulton County prosecutors have provided insufficient evidence to warrant their client’s continued incarceration.
Gunna was indicted on a racketeering charge in a sweeping, 56-count RICO case against his and Young Thug’s YSL collective.
“To allow Mr. Kitchens to be held in jail by the unsworn claims and conclusions of the state, devoid of any specific facts or supporting evidence – over objection by the defense – is to render his presumption of innocence meaningless and to discard his right to due process,” his attorneys wrote.
Kim Kardashian joined the fight calling for Gunna's freedom.
“#FreeGunna [Free emoji] [P emoji],” she wrote in a tweet to her 73.1 million Twitter followers, while sharing a screenshot of it on her Instagram Story. Her tweet has over 140,000 likes and 30,000 retweets.
Kardashian’s wielded her star power and influence in helping those unfairly inprisoned by the U.S. criminal justice system while advocating for prison reform, as she played a role in passing the First Step Act, a bill aimed to cut unnecessarily long federal sentences and improve conditions in federal prison.
“For now, I don’t have my freedom. But I am innocent,” Gunna wrote. “I am being falsely accused and will never stop fighting to clear my name! The picture being painted of me is ugly and untrue … I have all faith that God will grant me justice for the purity in my heart and the innocence of my actions.”
