A record number of voters have cast their ballots, as more than 90 million ballots have been cast.
Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Arizona, and Nevada, are key battleground states, and in Texas and Hawaii, early voters surpassed the total number of votes cast in 2016.
60% of early voters mailed in their ballots and 40% waited in lines. Democrats hold a lead in votes with 43%, while Republicans account for 38%. Third-party votes accounted for 19% of the early vote total.
Because early votes are counted when the polls close it is unlikely that there will be a clear winner on election night, and it is possible that the results will be contested.
