Star Wars actor John Boyega gained international attention after sharing a video supporting Black Lives Matter. He said he hates racists and told his followers to delete him if they were either racist or justified the behaviors of the officers involved in George Floyd's death. Boyega began trending on social media with mixed responses from fans. Some people supported him while others took the time to criticize him for his remarks.
Boyega surfaced in London at Hyde Park where he delivered a speech.
“Black lives have always mattered,” Boyega said to protesters. “We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting…We are a physical representation of our support for George Floyd. We are a physical representation of our support for Sandra Bland. We are a physical representation of our support for Trayvon Martin. We are a physical representation of our support for Stephen Lawrence. I’m speaking to you from my heart. Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this, but f*ck that," he tearfully added. “Today is about innocent people who were halfway through their process. We don’t know what George Floyd could have achieved, we don’t know what Sandra Bland could have achieved, but today we’re going to make sure that won’t be an alien thought to our young ones.”
Jordan Peele made sure to let the actor know that his career would be just fine. Peele tweeted, "We got you, John."
