If you don't know the story of Emmett Till, he was a 14-year-old black boy that was murdered in 1955 for allegedly whistling at a white woman. Men from the town found Emmett, beat then lynched him for it. During the funeral Emmett's mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, requested that her son's casket be left open so everybody could see the horror that happened to her son.
Year's after his death Mamie continue to advocate for her son's in justice until her death in 2003.
Now Jay-Z and Will Smith are executively producing Women of the Movement on ABC that chronicles women in history who've made strides for equality and social justice. The first episode will feature Mamie Till-Mobley and aims to tell Till’s story through her perspective.
No word yet on when the series will premiere.
