Love & Hip Hop Star Yandy Smith was pepper sprayed at a recent protest outside of a Brooklyn Jail.
The protest started after inmates were heard banging on their cell windows pleading for help. The jail was left without heat or electric for over a week in freezing temperatures.
Hundreds gathered outside of the jail alongside Yandy and Women's March co-founder Tamika Mallory demanding for officers to treat the inmates humanely.
After being sprayed Yandy took to her social media let people know she was there in support of a mother worried about her son. Many people claimed she was only there for attention.
“Here real change is happening because we demanded it and put in the work. Stop sitting at home judging, causing dissension, and allowing nonsense to cloud your vision of what’s right!” she wrote. “Get up and get out there with me. You see the work and I will CONTINUE TO POST! SO THE NEXT TIME YOU SAY YANDY DOES IT FOR SOCIAL MEDIA MAKE SURE YOU ADD BUT SHE REALLY PUTS IN THE WORK AND MAKES THINGS HAPPEN!" she said.
Today, back up generators restored electric in parts of the Brooklyn Jail. We can only hope that the rest of the issues are resolved immediately.
