Teyana Taylor Talks K.T.S.E., XXXTentacion & More!

Teyana Taylor just released her sophomore album, K.T.S.E. and came to The Beat studio to discuss the its release with Papa Keith.

K.T.S.E., which stands for "keep that same energy," was released by Kanye West's label, G.O.O.D. Music and produced by the rapper as well. The 7-track album has minimal features only collaborating with Ye (of course), and TY$.

Influence Behind The Album

She made it evident that her experience as a woman, wife to NBA player Iman Shumpert, and mother to a baby girl has influenced her artistry.

I'm excited that people can see me grow, I'm excited that where I am in life I have more to talk about. There's a lot more different topics cause i dun been through some thangs. That's what kind of makes the whole thing amazing. I'm still learning myself, I'm still maturing as a whole.

Pusha T & Drake Beef

Teyana's journey to this album has not been easy, yet she has not traveled it solo. Her label mate, Pusha T originally came from Pharell's Star Trak label with her, and they both went on to Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music.

Yet, concerning the beef Pusha T has with Drake, Teyana mentions that she's cool with both MC's and does not concern herself with getting in the middle of that "S***". She is more focused on making sure her family is straight more than getting in between petty beefs.

XXXTentacion & #JusticeForJunior

As a New York native, Harlem specifically, it was obvious that the senseless killing of 15-year-old Bronx teen named Junior, hit close to home. She mentioned "it's heartbreaking... it's too much to put into words. No one deserves to lose their life."

Even more, the unexpected death of South Florida rapper XXXTentacion, struck a emotional chord with her. Tearfully, she revealed her sentiments that there was always something about X that wanted to be better.

Teyana's Focus

Teyana currently has a reality show on VH1 called "Teyana and Iman," highlighting her family life, and is expanding her fitness initiative, "Fade to Fit".

One of the next steps for her musically is creating visuals for her album that she feels will offer further interpretation and understanding for listeners. As well as being more frequent in her releases.

"After each album, there's always so many years. I'm just excited I'm at a place in can be consistent and give y'all more and more music and it not be years apart.
