The 2021 Atlantic hurricane season could be a busy one, but nothing like we saw last year. In 2020 there were 30 named storms which is the most on record and while things are expected to slow down this year, AccuWeather's Lead Tropical and Hurricane Forecaster Dan Kottlowski says their latest forecast is predicting 16-20 named storms. Three to five of those storms could become major hurricanes.
Kottlowski says a normal season is considered to have 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes. He adds that Atlantic water temperature will play a big role in how busy hurricane season is.
Hurricane season kicks off June 1st.
