Space Coast Credit Union supports our nation's military members this May and every day!
SCSU is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative. We exist to serve our members with a full array of financial services including
Like a bank, we accept deposits and make loans, but unlike banks, we place the interests of our members above making profits for stockholders. We return profits to members in the form of better rates, lower fees, and enhanced services.
Our history is deeply rooted in the military.
SCCU was chartered in June of 1951 as Patrick Air Force Base Credit Union to serve as a savings institution and create a source of credit for military personnel stationed at the base. To begin, there were seven charter members with combined assets of $372. The idea was to pool the members' savings together, and then borrow from that pooled fund to be able to obtain affordable loans.
Although the credit union name changed as our footprint extended, and our services have expanded to keep pace with the evolving needs of our members, the idea of cooperative ownership has not changed. SCCU members still pool their deposits and then borrow from the cooperative when they have the need.
The members are borrowing their own money, so loans should be affordable. Additionally, we believe a member’s contribution to the cooperative’s success should be reflected in their member rewards.
Today, SCCU serves more than 290,000 members and we have over $3 billion in assets, making us the third largest credit union in Florida.
SCSU has 58 branch locations spanning Florida’s east coast, from Flagler to Miami-Dade counties!
