In a rare and emotional moment, Young Thug opened up about the pain he feels over his fractured relationship with longtime friend and collaborator Gunna, following the YSL RICO case.
During an interview on the It’s Up There Podcast, Thug revealed that while he still has love for Gunna, their bond has been forever changed. The Atlanta rapper said he doesn’t hold resentment, but admitted he felt betrayed after Gunna accepted an Alford plea deal. A legal move that allowed him to maintain his innocence while acknowledging that YSL operated as a gang.

Gunna’s plea secured his release from jail in late 2022, but the decision stirred controversy, especially within hip-hop circles and among YSL affiliates. While Thug remained behind bars as the case continued, his comments mark the first time he’s publicly addressed the tension between them.
“I love him, but I can’t look at him the same,” Thug shared, offering a glimpse into the emotional toll the case has taken beyond the courtroom.
