Tragedy at Delta State University black student found dead. Shock and grief have swept through Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, after the body of 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed, a Black student, was discovered hanging from a tree on campus early Monday morning.
University police confirmed that Reed’s body was found around 7:05 a.m. on September 15. Both campus police and local authorities have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
At this time, no official determination has been made regarding the cause of death. University officials have stated they are cooperating fully with law enforcement and are urging the public to avoid speculation as facts continue to emerge.

The students death has sparked widespread concern, not only among students and faculty but also in the broader Cleveland community. Many are demanding transparency and accountability, while mental health professionals and civil rights groups are calling for increased support and safety measures for Black students at PWIs (Predominantly White Institutions).
