Update: Young Dolph Arrest Made After Two Years

After two years of evading authorities, Shundale Barnett, a key figure in the high-profile case surrounding the murder of rapper Young Dolph, has finally been apprehended. Barnett’s arrest marks a significant development in a case that has been clouded with tension, intrigue, and controversy.

Barnett faces several serious charges, including accessory after the fact, attempted first-degree murder, and theft of property. These charges stem from his alleged involvement in helping his cousin, Justin Johnson, evade law enforcement following the tragic shooting of Young Dolph in November 2021. Johnson, also known as “Straight Drop,” was convicted of first-degree murder in 2024 and sentenced to life in prison for his role in the rapper’s death.

According to court documents, Barnett played a pivotal role in assisting Johnson while he was on the run. In December 2021, Barnett is accused of renting a car for Johnson to use during his time in hiding. This action is part of a broader investigation into the murder of Young Dolph, who was gunned down in broad daylight at a Memphis cookie shop in Tennessee.

Barnett’s arrest also brings renewed attention to the ongoing legal battles of others involved in the case. Cornelius Smith, another alleged accomplice, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and conspiracy. Smith’s trial is expected to start soon, as prosecutors prepare to build a case against him.

Meanwhile, Hernandez Govan, labeled as the mastermind behind the plot to kill Young Dolph, is scheduled for trial in July 2025. Authorities claim that Govan orchestrated the murder as part of a murder-for-hire scheme. Allegations have surfaced that the scheme was financially backed by Anthony “Big Jook” Mim, the brother of rapper Yo Gotti. Testimony from various witnesses will be crucial as the case progresses, with claims that the murder was driven by an intricate network of personal and professional disputes within the Memphis rap scene.

As the legal proceedings continue to unfold, there is a sense of anticipation surrounding the trials of Govan, Smith, and others involved. The coming months will likely bring more revelations to light, potentially providing more clarity on the circumstances surrounding Young Dolph's murder and the intricate web of individuals connected to it.
