Vybz Kartel Granted Freedom

Jamaican Dancehall star, Vybz Kartel has been behind bars for more than a decade for the murder of a promoter back in 2011. Vybz has been trying to prove he is innocent since. Today (March 14) a London court overturned his murder conviction.

He was convicted along with three others for the murder of Clive 'Lizard" Williams in 2014. Clive Williams' body was never found. Prosecutors claimed that Clive the deceased was lured to Vybz Kartel's house where he was then beaten to death. Williams was being questioned of missing guns allegedly.

The conviction was overturned because it was suspect due to attempts to bribe the jury during the trial. Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, will remain incarcerated for the time being. Co-convicts the same deal; Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John. Judge David Lloyd-Jones overturned the conviction and said that the trial judge’s decision to allow the juror in question to remain on the jury was “fatal to the safety of the convictions”.

The Privy Council has sent the case back to the Court of Appeal in Jamaica, which will now decide whether Kartel and his co-defendants should stand trial again.

The statement from the Privy Council reads...... “The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council has concluded that the appeals should be allowed and the appellants’ convictions should be quashed on the ground of juror misconduct, and that the case should be remitted to the Court of Appeal of Jamaica to decide whether to order a retrial of the appellants for the murder of the deceased.”

The trial lasted for 65-days. With lawyers arguing against some of the evidence. A British forensic expert who reviewed the case, and found serious questions about phone evidence, among other issues. The case was heavily circumstantial along with a discredited witness.

Until the decision is made on rather or not a retrial is needed Vybz Kartel will remain behind bars.

With trial misconduct, Vybzs' deathly health issues, no hard evidence, over a decade in prison already serving a life sentence, and the body never found of the deceased do you think Vybz Kartel and his co-defendants should have to endure a retrial? Dope you comments below.
