YNW Melly double murder trial will continue in Broward County Circuit court. Melly's defense attorneys requested a mistrial. His legal team felt the jury has been tainted following testimony that could not be verified.
Judge John Murphy denied the mistrial request. Judge Murphy told the defense attorneys, jurors could be instructed to ignore statements that were inadmissible.
YNW Melly, whose legal name on court documents is Jamell Demons is facing a potential death sentence for double murder. Allegedly back in 2018 he killed his two former friends Anthony Williams (YNW Sackchaser) and Christopher Thomas Jr. (YNW Juvy). Cortland Henry (YNW Bortlen) is also involved in the case as an accomplice.
Henry was the alleged driver of the jeep all of the former friends rode in. The group left a studio recording session together when the night of events took a wrong turn with Melly shooting both of his ex-homies Williams and Thomas. Two weeks of testimony putting calling out the actions surrounding the double murder as an attempted cover up. After committing the murders Melly and Cortland Henry drove to the Everglades with the two bodies. Where they then shot at the sides of Henry's Jeep from the outside to make it look like they were victims of a drive-by-shooting.
Prosecutors are blaming the shooting on gang activities; while the defense bats it's down rebutleling they were "close friends" stating the motive lacks credibility.
The gun used in the crime has not been recovered.
