Netflix Password Sharing Fee

Who do you share your streaming passwords with? Streaming giant Netflix has been preparing users for some time now on new changes. Account holders may remember there was once a time when Netflix encouraged users to share their password with family and friends. Things have changed.

“Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with in your household,” Netflix said in an email to U.S. subscribers.

Only people who live under the same roof can share accounts, the streaming company says. There are two options if you want to share your account with someone who does not live with you: transfer their profile to a new membership or share your Netflix account for an additional $8 monthly fee.

The changes comes months after Netflix enforced new restrictions in Spain, Canada, Portugal and New Zealand.

The monthly fee for password sharing is less expensive than the basic ad-free plan; at $10 a month. Basic plan with ads is $7a month. Standard plans cost $15.49 a month and premium plan cost $20 a month.
