Drake dropped in on Florida International University students during night class at Dave Grutman's hospitality experience.
The FIU students were surprised by the super star-artist showing up to the 400 plus packed class. Drake commended the students for learning and trying to do something with themselves at 8:30pm at night.
“I think it’s still amazing that at 8:30 at night, you’re all still sitting here and trying to learn something and trying to elevate yourselves,” he began.
“Exploration as an artist really just boils down to confidence. I think you have to find the balance between doing what you know works for you and what you know people love you for, but also giving yourself a shock, waking yourself up because it can become very formulaic.”
Dave Grutman, Miami nightlife mogul was responsible for having Drake guest appear to speak to the students about his career journey. Grutman also had Victoria Beckham, and Dj Khaled as guest speakers at the seminar.
Drake reminded the student that he wasn't what the labels were looking for when he first started his career. He remembered travel the country with his uncle to different labels sitting in front of accomplished artist like Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and Lenny.
Drake left powerful gems speaking to the students. Having to pave his own lane as motivation.
