Florida May Have To Wait For Stimulus Funds

There's a new stimulus, but it may take weeks for Floridians to recieve a new round of $300 payments.

Those proposed benefits are part of a $900 billion relief package designed to give qualified unemployed workers an extra $300 in weekly benefits over 11 weeks, and independent contractors and freelancers could receive $100 a week.

“We are monitoring closely to see what is passed at the federal level and will await federal implementing guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor,” spokeswoman Paige Landrum said.

Speed has not been an issue for Florida in delivering jobless benefits, as the state’s unemployment insurance system spent months trying to keep pace with millions of new unemployment applications.

Florida is the second-worst state in paying out benefits on time this year, and the latest round of unemployment payments from Congress would be separate

The new round of federal jobless benefits is an add-on to the original aid approved by Congress in March that funneled up to $600 weekly to unemployed workers, but the maximum $275 payment is among the lowest in the nation.
