A Florida lotto winner took home $1 million after thinking he won $1,000.
Lee Wingfield, bought a winning scratch-off ticket for $20 from a Publix Super Market.
“I originally thought I won $1,000, so I put the ticket in my pocket and went about my day. That night I realized my prize had a lot more than three zeros in it,” Wingfield said.
Wingfield chose to receive the prize money as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $890,000, and the grocery store will get a $2,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
Lotto players have a 1-in-2.96 chance of getting lucky on the 200X THE CASH scratch-off game. The top prize is $5 million.
