Authorities arrested a man suspected of lighting a fire inside of a ballot drop-off box at the Boston Public Library. Worldy Armand was taken into custody and is expected to be arraigned on charges of willful and malicious burning.
The Boston Elections Department said that there were 122 ballots in the box at the time of the fire. They salvaged 87 of the ballots to be processed.
“Federal authorities are now investigating this matter. For the next several weeks, it is a top priority of our offices to help maintain the integrity of the election process in Massachusetts by aggressively enforcing federal election laws,” U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling and FBI special agent Joseph R. Bonavolonta said in a joint statement.
