LISTEN: FIU Kicking Off Next Horizon With Celebration

Florida International University is reaching for their Next Horizon.

Saturday afternoon the school's launching the public phase of its multi-year, $750-million fundraising campaign.

President Mark Rosenberg says, "This is going to go into scholarship money and support money so that our students can continue to stay right here, at home, and get great educations."

He adds, "I'm so proud of the fact that every year we graduate nearly 15,000 students, most of whom stay right here and go into the South Florida workforce contribute back to their families, their communities."  In fact, "a little over 30% of teachers in Dade County are FIU graduates.  So, it's just amazing when you begin to scratch the surface where FIU is, and how much we help the community."

Knowing $750,000 is a lofty goal, he stresses the school has already received 132,000 unique donations for more than $460-million.

Saturday's kickoff, filled with free food, music and other entertainment begins at noon in the center of the main campus.
