Kid Cudi says he and J. Cole attempted to collaborate a couple of times over the years, but they haven't completed a song together yet.
The Cleveland, Ohio native made the revelation on Wednesday, September 18, while responding to a fan on X formerly known as Twitter. After the fan said Cudi and Cole would be the "best collab of all time," Cudi revealed that he had a studio session with the Dreamville founder during the making of his 2013 album Indicud. Unfortunately, Cole apparently couldn't write any bars to the beat Cudi produced.
"I had a session w Cole for Indicud he couldnt write to the beat I produced," Cudi wrote. "It was a bummer, and I always wanted to do something so I reached out for INSANO, no response. So theres that."
Fans were clearly distraught by the news. Despite the failed attempts, Cudi clarified that they don't have any looming issues with one another. In fact, he hopes that their collaboration will finally happen some day in the future.
"Cole dope I fux w him," Cudi told another fan. "I dont think Cole dislikes me I think he just didnt connect w what I sent him. One day hopefully it happens."
Kid Cudi opened up about his studio session with J. Cole after he delivered the music video for his new song "Don't Worry" featuring Chip the Ripper. As promised, the song arrived alongside the fourth issue of his ongoing comic book series, Moon Man. The video, which was shot in artist and designer KAWS' studio, is an homage to his second home in New York. After he released the music video, Kid Cudi shared that his next album, Kid Cudi Presents The Soundtrack of Moon Man, is already finished and promised it "will take u places."
"Im glad u guys like the s**t Ive been puttin out this year," he wrote on X. "My next album, which is already complete, is something im so proud of and its different, and new, and will take u places. Ive been on the same wave for about 4 years, but its time we ride another one. 😎"
