Royals Beat Rays In Extras

The Kansas City Royals (49-72) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (63-55) 3-2 in ten innings on Friday night at Tropicana Field.

Bobby Witt Jr. hit a two-run homer off Rays starter Shane McClanahan in the third inning to give the Rays a 2-0 lead. That would be the only runs McClanahan would give up - he wound up working seven innings and allowing just two hits while striking out eight and walking three.

Randy Arozarena came through with a two-run single in the sixth inning to tie the game 2-2. That would be the score headed to extras, when the Royals were able to get the ghost runner around from second to score and take a 3-2 lead.

The Rays only sent two runners to the plate in the bottom of the tenth, because extra runner Roman Quinn was caught attempting to steal third base as the Royals secured the 3-2 victory.

The Rays and Royals now meet in the third game of the fourth game series on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PM - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 3:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
