Yankees Salvage Finale Against Rays

The New York Yankees (73-45) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (62-54) 8-7 in ten innings late Wednesday night in the Bronx. Josh Donaldson hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the tenth to key the comeback victory.

This game was slowed by an hour long rain delay in the seventh inning.

The Rays built a lead of 4-0 over New York in the sixth before the Yankees rallied to tie the game 4-4 in the eighth inning. In the tenth inning Francisco Mejia hit a three-run double that gave the Rays a 7-4 lead, but unfortunately the Rays could not hold it. Josh Donaldson came up with the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame and delivered with a walk-off grand slam that kept New York from being swept.

Corey Kluber got the start and allowed two earned runs in six innings on four hits while striking out eight and walking one. Jalen Beeks (2-2, 2.81) took the loss after facing three batters and failing to get an out in the bottom of the tenth inning.

The Rays now begin a four game series with the Royals on Thursday night. First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 7:10 PM - Jay Recher begins pregame coverage at 6:00 with the Inside Pitch on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
