Note: A spokesperson from St. Joseph's Episcopal Church has reached out to Florida News with a correction to this previous story. We have corrected the text in the original version to match the following message:

The lease, which was signed by the former senior warden and the current chair of the board of the school, ends on November 30, 2022, not the end of the school year. The church and the school are now working to select a third-party mediator to enter into joint discussions to determine terms agreeable to both parties.

Original Story:

A number of South Florida families are looking for new arrangements for their kids after a private school announced it is being forced to close.

Administrators at St. Joseph's Episcopal School in Boynton Beach say the lease, which was signed by the former senior warden and the current chair of the board of the school, ends on November 30, 2022.

Eric McCabe was one of the many parents who attended a protest over the weekend.

"Just tell me why. That's it. What did we do? What did our children do? We had our children in front of the church crying. We had parents crying. It was unbelievable."

Church officials tell CBS 12 News that they want to work through the transition together with the school, but that the school has been unresponsive to requests to meet.

The vice president of the school says they have been trying to talk with church leaders since February, to no avail.

But as we noted above, a spokesperson for St. Joseph's Episcopal Church tells Florida News:

The church and the school are now working to select a third-party mediator to enter into joint discussions to determine terms agreeable to both parties.
