RuPaul Makes Television History With Latest Emmy Victory

Breaking down barriers is nothing new to RuPaul, but the entertainer achieved something tonight that is utterly incredible. After taking home the award for Outstanding Competition Program with RuPaul's Drag Race, the shining light in television become the most award Black creator in Emmy history. Over the course of two decades, RuPaul has gathered 11 Primetime Emmy wins. Not to mention, Ru Paul's Drag Race has nearly two dozen Emmys as well.

"All of the people at World of Wonder and Viacom-CBS who have been so wonderful, but really thanks to all of our lovely children on our show from around the world. You know, they are so gracious to tell their stories of courage and how to navigate this difficult life, even more difficult today. This is for you," RuPaul said while accepting the award.

"And for the kids out there watching: You have a tribe that is waiting for you. We are waiting for you, baby: Come on to Mama Ru. Thank you so much."

RuPaul is not the only one being honored tonight. Despite not taking home an award, late Michael K. Williams was honored by Kerry Washington and Michaela Coel won her first Emmy Award as well. Not to mention, Allyson Felix presented her first Emmy Award while Cedric The Entertainer delivered hilarious sketch after hilarious sketch during his first time hosting the award show.
