Chicken Wings Imported From Brazil Test Positive For COVID-19

A sample of chicken wings shipped from Brazil into Shenzhen, a southern city in China, has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to authorities.

Along with other multiple reports of contaminated imported products, the virus was found on a surface sample of the unidentified brand of wings during a screening on Wednesday (8/12). However, the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the chances are low of getting the virus through food.

Once detected, Shenzhen health authorities tracked down and tested those who were in possible contact of the chicken wings. Everyone involved tested negative along with the products in stock that have been sealed off, according to a statement.

Now, officials are working to track down affiliated products from the same brand of the wings that have already been sold.

With 3.1 million cases, Brazil has more people with the coronavirus than any other country, besides the U.S.

Reports of the contaminated chicken come a day after the virus was found on packages of shrimp sent in from Ecuador to a restaurant in Anhui, China during an inspection, according to Chinese news reports.

There have been at least seven situations where the virus was found on seafood packaging across China since July. Chinese health authorities have repeatedly told the public to be cautious about buying imported meat and seafood.
