Janice Combs, mother of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, has officially beat a $33 million RICO lawsuit filed by Deon Best, aka D1. The case, centered around the 1998 track “Come With Me” from the Godzilla movie soundtrack, has now been dismissed without prejudice.
Best accused Janice Combs of being part of an alleged scheme alongside Diddy and others to steal his intellectual property, royalties, and publishing rights tied to the hit song. He claimed his creative work was used without proper credit or compensation, and argued that a wide-reaching conspiracy was behind it.
The lawsuit cited the RICO Act (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations), typically used in cases involving organized crime or ongoing fraudulent schemes. However, the judge wasn’t convinced. The case was tossed without prejudice, meaning it could technically be refile, but for now, the Combs family walks away clean.
“Come With Me,” Diddy’s remix of Led Zeppelin’s "Kashmir" featuring Jimmy Page, was a major soundtrack hit in the late ‘90s and helped cement Diddy's crossover appeal post-Biggie.
As of now, neither Diddy nor his legal team have issued a public response.
