Double murder case involving rapper YNW Melly has hit yet another delay. Originally scheduled to begin on September 10, 2025, the retrial has been postponed due to an unresolved appeal currently pending in district court.
Melly, born Jamell Demons, is facing charges for the 2019 shooting deaths of his close friends and fellow YNW collective members, Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams. Prosecutors allege the killings were premeditated and staged to look like a drive-by shooting.
This is Melly’s second time facing trial on these charges. The first trial, which took place in 2023, ended in a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict, forcing the state to pursue a retrial.
With the appeal now stalling court proceedings, there's still no confirmed date for when the retrial will resume. The case continues to draw national attention due to its high-profile nature and the serious allegations against one of Florida’s most controversial rap artists.
