Azealia Banks has entered the conversation surrounding Tory Lanez once again—this time aiming her words at Megan Thee Stallion. In a recent post on social media, Banks claimed that Megan is "overreacting" in response to the ongoing discourse about Lanez’s imprisonment, suggesting the Houston rapper is stirring up unnecessary drama while Lanez reportedly deals with medical issues behind bars.
“It’s the devil in your head,” Banks wrote in an Instagram Story. “If I were you, I would calm down.”
Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being convicted in December 2022 for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. He was found guilty on three felony charges: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. Despite the conviction, the case continues to polarize both fans and celebrities.
Reports recently surfaced that Lanez has been hospitalized while in custody, though details about his condition remain unclear. His legal team has also continued to file appeals and advocate for a sentence reduction or possible clemency, supported by figures like Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna.
Azealia Banks, never one to shy away from controversy, suggested that Megan is using the case to maintain victim status in the public eye, rather than allowing the legal process to conclude. This isn’t the first time Banks has challenged Megan publicly—she’s been critical of her music, public persona, and how the shooting case has played out in the media.
Banks’ comments have sparked backlash online, especially from Megan’s supporters who argue that diminishing a survivor’s trauma only perpetuates harmful narratives. Megan has previously spoken at length about the toll the shooting and trial took on her mental health, telling Elle in 2023: “I was in a dark place... I didn’t want to get out of bed, I felt hopeless.”
This controversy adds to an already emotionally charged situation that has divided the music community for years. It also brings into focus the deeper issues of misogynoir, credibility, and the treatment of Black women in the entertainment industry.

With Lanez’s legal team pushing for clemency and Azealia Banks continuing to insert herself into the narrative, this saga shows no signs of fading from the headlines anytime soon.
