Fashion influencer and longtime stylist Misa Hylton is taking legal action against R&B Queen Mary J. Blige, filing a $5,0000 lawsuit over a heated artist dispute. According to court documents, Hylton claims Blige swayed her client; Harlem rapper Vado and signed him to her record label without honoring Hylton’s existing management deal. Vado signed a recording deal with Mary J. Blige October of 2023 while he was signed to a management deal to Misa on July 25 a couple of months prior.
Vado, a 40-year-old artist with industry ties dating back to the Dipset era, reportedly had a formal management agreement with Hylton. But when Blige offered him a recording contract under her imprint, the situation turned sour. Hylton alleges that the terms of the deal have left Vado in what she described as "economic servitude," claiming the artist is unable to generate enough income to cover the advances tied to the deal.
While the $5 million lawsuit may seem minor by industry standards, the case may have a layer of complexity and messiness looped in being that the ladies were friends in the past more than just "client styling". Years of intersections of friendship, business, in the entertainment world. Neither Mary J. Blige nor her reps have publicly responded to the suit at this point. Vado nor has his team provided clarity to this sticky situation.
One thing for sure Mary J. Blige's For the Fans Tour last night in Miami FL had the Kaseya Center arena full of energy and high emotions. As the crowd sang word for word every Mary track imagined the R&B Queen became overwhelmed by the love filling the atmosphere Mary drop some tears thanking the audience for showing up and showing out for her on the last tour night.
