Tensions in Haiti are at an all time high. A Spirit Airline plane was riddled with gunfire while attempting to land in Haiti on Monday (November.11) Spirit Airlines Flight 951 for departure from Fort Lauderdale Fl to Port-au-Prince Haiti had to deviate from the original flight path and land in the Dominican Republic.
There were 48 passengers on board. None sustained any physical injuries reported at this time. One flight attendant was stuck by gunfire.
Recently in the last months gangs have taken over majority of the capital of Haiti. It has been reported that 80% of Haiti's capital is under the control of gangs.
The US.Embassy in Haiti released a statement ..."The security situation in Haiti is unpredictable and dangerous," the embassy said. "Travel within Haiti is conducted at your own risk. The U.S. government cannot guarantee your safety traveling to airports, borders, or during any onward travel. You should consider your personal security situation before traveling anywhere in Haiti."
In the wake of the incident, all commercial flights departing from Port-au-Prince have been suspended. Other major airlines are suspending their services to Haiti as well. American Airlines and JetBlue have made the announcement that they are suspending flights to Haiti.
