Rod Wave Outperformed GloRilla In First Week Album Sales

The results are in for the latest music release competition. Rod Wave and GloRilla faced off when Rod decided to change his release date to match GloRilla's. This upset GloRilla, who expressed her feelings on social media. Now that the first week sales are out, we see why. Rod Wave clearly won, selling 127,000 copies of his album Last Lap, while GloRilla sold 69,000 copies of her debut album, Glorious. This is Rod Wave's second-best first-week sales ever, only behind his album SoulFly, which sold 130,000 copies in its first week. Rod has shown he is one of the most reliable artists in the 2020s, nearly doubling GloRilla's numbers. Despite this, GloRilla is gaining respect in the industry. Her 69,000 sales are the highest for a female rapper in 2024, even with tough competition from artists like JT, Ice Spice, and Latto. Wale even praised her album, comparing it to his big breakthrough, Ambition, from 2011, saying, “GloRilla project remind me of ambition album. That girl is a light in the game right now.” He also asked critics to stop doubting her talent. GloRilla thanked her fans and team on Twitter, saying, "S/O to God, my fans & supporter & my team. Thank yall."

Glorious debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 chart, while Rod Wave's Last Lap came in at number two. This marks the second time Rod has achieved this, along with one number 10 debut and four number one debuts. Rod Wave has proven himself in the music industry and was expected to lead in this same-day release against GloRilla. However, it is encouraging to see both artists succeeding and reaching impressive sales early in their careers. Keep it locked to 103.5 The Beat for more!
