Lil Yachty Receives Backlash from New York Over the City's Fashion Scene

Lilachty Yach from HotNewHipHop.ty is facing criticism on social media for his comments about New York fashion during the recent episode of his A Safe Place Podcast. The discussion took place with rising artist Cash Cobain, where Yachty expressed his thoughts on the city's fashion identity. "I feel like New York doesn’t have this... I don’t want to say identity," he remarked. "You all are so clearly separated now. Everyone used to just kind of copy Atlanta." He further stated, "In terms of style, I don’t think there’s much happening in New York fashion. You all like Purple Label, Amiri... and you wear a lot of your friends' brands. We can tell. Do people from the outskirts—like Queens and the Bronx—even come to Manhattan to shop?" However, he did acknowledge seeing some good outfits in SoHo. Fans quickly reacted to Yachty's remarks. One user on X (formerly Twitter) posted a photo of him wearing a bucket hat and Polo shirt, captioning it, "Yachty said people from the Bronx can’t dress, but it’s folks in SoHo who have the best style in NY. Meanwhile, he looks like a 2007 Bronx dude."

Another commented on his outfit, "I’m definitely not taking fashion advice from Yachty while he’s dressed like a middle school girl above and a homeless hipster from California below. I’m good on this oxymoron." Juelz Santana was also among those who took issue with Yachty's comments, responding passionately on Instagram and tagging fellow New York rappers like ASAP Rocky and Fabolous for support. In response to the backlash, Yachty addressed the issue in a TikTok video. "If you look back at a certain time, it’s definitely New York," he stated. "But lately, trends are coming from Atlanta. A lot of the most stylish people in the world were born in New York, that’s a fact. But, come on, bruh. Recently, it’s Atlanta."
