The Florida Keys Celebrate The End Of Hurricane Season

A group of Florida Keys residents staged a ceremonial burning of hurricane warning flags.

The event marked the official end of the record-breaking 2020 hurricane season.

Members of the Keys' ceremonial Conch Republic administration doused the hurricane flags with rum and set them on fire.

The 2020 season spawned 30 named storms including 13 hurricanes, making it the busiest on record surpassing the 28 from 2005 that marked the second-highest number of hurricanes on record.

The burning of the hurricane flags capped the Florida Keys’ Conch Republic Independence Celebration, held beside the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Ingham, a maritime museum docked at Key West’s Truman Waterfront.
